Lessard Coutu: A Family Jewellery Atelier in Niagara

A Family Atelier
My parents, Marianne Lessard and Maurice Coutu, founded Lessard Coutu Jewellery in 1990. Today, I carry that work forward as a second-generation jeweller at our atelier in St. Catharines.
The work begins with a conversation about the person, the occasion and what the jewellery should mean. We make custom engagement rings and jewellery, and help clients repair, remount or repurpose pieces they already own. Our open atelier is at 4½ Lake Street, St. Catharines, Ontario.
Jewellery for the Person and the Occasion
An engagement, anniversary or family gift gives us a starting point for the design. From there, we consider the person’s taste, how the piece will be worn and the budget you want to work within. A quiet pendant and a bold ring call for different decisions about scale, shape and detail.
I want the person receiving the piece to recognise something of themselves in it.
How We Work
-
Purpose in design—We look at what each detail contributes to the piece. Traditional bench skills and tools such as CAD and 3D printing each have a part to play.
-
Family continuity—Our work in Niagara began in 1990.
-
Attention to the person—The consultation gives us time to understand what matters to you. That conversation helps guide the stones, metal, proportions and practical choices.
-
Informed material choices—Ask about the stones and metals under consideration, including what is known about their origin and any available documentation.
Visiting the Atelier
You can bring references, a rough idea or a piece of jewellery you would like us to consider. You do not need a finished design before speaking with us. We can discuss the design, materials and practical requirements together. The atelier is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.
If you would like to discuss a piece or plan a visit to our St. Catharines atelier, get in touch with us.
