Engagement Ring Buying Guide

Begin with Your Partner
Choosing an engagement ring asks you to pay attention to the person who will wear it. For me, the proposal and the ring should feel considered: personal to the two of you, and right for everyday life.
A ring can be a reminder of your relationship. The details you choose give that idea a physical form.
At our atelier, we work through those choices with you. Proportions, comfort and the way the ring will be worn all deserve attention.
Before You Start
You do not need to arrive with all the answers. A sense of your partner’s preferences and a budget you are comfortable with give us a useful place to begin.
Know the Ring Size
Have the finger measured professionally where possible. Comfort matters as much as the appearance of the ring.
If the proposal is a surprise, discuss sizing and the options for any later adjustment with your jeweller. The aim is a secure, comfortable fit rather than a guess based only on appearance.
Metal and Colour
Notice which metal colours your partner already wears: yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum may each suggest a different direction. Consider their preference alongside the ring’s design and maintenance needs.
Shape of the Centre Stone
The centre stone’s shape influences the outline and proportions of the ring. Round, princess, oval, marquise, pear, cushion, emerald and radiant shapes each offer a different outline. Look at the shapes your partner is drawn to, without assuming that one shape defines their personality.
Engagement Ring Style
Look at the jewellery and clothing your partner chooses for themselves. A solitaire, a vintage influence, a spare modern setting or an Art Nouveau reference can all be starting points for a design.
Finding Inspiration
References your partner has shared with you, including saved images or Pinterest boards, can help explain their preferences. Use them to identify what they like about a ring—the shape, metal, setting or a particular detail—rather than treating one image as the whole brief.
When you are ready to compare the starting points, read Custom Ring, Setting or Collection: Where to Begin, or explore the engagement ring settings themselves.
