Understanding Engagement Ring Prices in Canada

A price is useful when you know what it includes. Before comparing two engagement rings, establish whether you are looking at a setting, a starting price or a quote for the complete ring.

The setting price

On the LCJ settings page, the displayed CAD price is for the setting. The centre diamond is selected and priced separately. This makes it possible to begin with a design and then explore the stone options for your ring.

Ask the atelier to confirm the metal, size and details covered by your selection. Two designs with similar prices may appeal for very different reasons, so compare the ring itself as well as the number beside it.

Compare settings and current CAD prices

The collection starting price

A collection page uses a starting price to introduce a design. Treat it as the beginning of a quotation conversation. Confirm the centre stone, metal, size, design details and what is included in the finished commission.

The word 'from' matters. A starting price does not tell you the price of every possible version of a ring, or establish that the centre stone shown in a video is included.

An illustrative calculation

Suppose a setting is CAD $2,500 and your selected centre diamond is CAD $3,000. Those two components add to CAD $5,500. This is an illustration, not an LCJ offer or a current product quote.

Use the actual combined price displayed during your selection and confirm any adjustments, taxes, delivery charges or additional work in the final order. Do not assume a starting price is the total amount you will pay.

The custom commission quote

For a custom ring, begin by sharing the budget and the details that matter most. Stone selection, metal, design complexity and the work involved all contribute to the quote. Ask which stages and approvals are included, and what would happen to the price if you change the design.

A useful quote identifies the ring you are commissioning. Confirm the centre stone details, metal, ring size, design scope, payment stages and expected timing with the atelier.

Compare the same things

Before choosing between quotes, check that both describe the same scope. Is the centre stone included? Are the metal and dimensions specified? Is the figure in CAD? What design work is covered? What are the arrangements for sizing, delivery and aftercare?

The cheapest number is not a complete comparison if one quote includes a diamond and another does not. Start with the details, then decide which ring and experience are right for you.

Planning from elsewhere in Canada

Tell the atelier your location and proposal plans before placing an order. Ask for the practical arrangements in writing, including how you will confirm sizing, approve the design and receive the finished ring. Confirm the policies that apply to your particular commission, especially for changes after approval.
